The Wanganui-Manawatu Sea Fishing Club's annual three-day tournament is drawing to an end today and event organisers are rapt with the turn-out.
Wanganui Manawatu Sea Fishing Club president Terry Liggett said the number of entries was up on last year.
"We have 465 people fishing and 130 boats on the water which is a great turnout," he said.
Mr Liggett said the brilliant summer weather had contributed to an accident-free event.
"At the start it was looking like a 60-40 chance of us going ahead with the event, but it's been bloody marvellous out here.
"I would like to thank our sponsors that have helped us put together $28,000 worth of prizes," he said.
Prizes will be awarded at 2pm today at the club. The traditional auction of all fish caught during the competition was held yesterday.
