Mobile dental units in Wanganui do not have hazardous levels of formaldehyde fumes in ceiling tiles, a report says.
In the report released this month chemical risk management company Chemsafety confirmed five of the Whanganui District Health Board's units were not producing fumes, and dental therapists did not have their safety compromised.
Formaldehyde fumes in Wanganui's units measured at levels below the World Health Organisation non-occupational exposure guideline and Workplace Exposure Standards.
WDHB took preventative action in mid-May after hearing that concentrations of airborne formaldehyde were discovered in a Canterbury mobile dental clinic.
At the time, medical officer of health Patrick O'Connor said the WDHB had been following advice given to Canterbury DHB, and he was confident the health risk to staff and patients would be low "given that formaldehyde is found in a number of household products including carpets, upholstery, clothing, and MDF building board".
