Steady rainfall saw play suspended at the St Johns Club Wanganui Junior Tennis Open this afternoon during the quarterfinal stages of the singles tournaments, with matches on the hard courts stopping immediately while the players on the grass courts came off not long after.

Starting early at 8.30am tomorrow, the organisers will try to get through the last three quarterfinal games of the 16-years-and-under Boys grade, as well as the semifinals and finals of all four singles divisions and the entire doubles draw.

The 12-Years-and-Under Boys and Girls titles are on the line, as well as the 16-Years-and-under Girls crown.

Hunting for a double will be Wellington's Zeno Varouhas-Poole, who won the 14-years-and-under Boys title on Sunday afternoon and had reached the quarterfinals of the 16-Years grade, as several players due double duty between two age groups.

Varouhas-Poole had beaten top seed and fellow Wellingtonian Sam Baird in the 14 Years final on Sunday, but Baird got a little bit of payback as he teamed with Lower Hutt's Sean Phegan to win the doubles crown in that eight team knockout tournament.

It was the first win by any top seeds of the weekend, as Baird and Phegan beat second seeds Varouhas-Poole and Henry Christie in the final 6-3 6-2.

Sam Baird teamed with Sean Phegan to win the 14-Years-and-under Boys doubles title on Sunday afternoon.

The 10-years-and-Under Boys doubles was a round-robin between four teams, with top seeds Johnny Baird and George Thomas emerging the winners.

After they faced each other in the 14-Years-and-Under Girls final, champion Maria Galatescu and runnerup Brooke Morgan teamed to win the doubles title, with the second seeds again denying top seed Reagan Pine of Mangaraki a title, as she teamed with Alice Bolton to lose 6-2 6-2.

Men's Open champion Daniel Alves of Wellington also teamed with his Taranaki-based runnerup Jayden Harrison to make the Open doubles final, but they were upset by third seeds Marc Paulik and Timothy Purchas 7-6 6-1.

Taranaki's Jayden Harrison has had to settle for runnerup placings in both the Open Men's singles and doubles tournaments.

In a round robin of four teams, the Women's Open was won by singles champion Elesha Smith and Sophie Painter, the second seeds.

Whanganui's most successful player over the weekend was Sean Edmonds, who won both his first round singles and doubles games in the Open grade before being eliminated.
