Real is rare and fake is seemingly everywhere.
That may sound a bit harsh, but it's a part of the reality of the world in which we live. From artificial flavouring in our foods through to attempting to live an unrealistic life on social media is now common place.
We all know people who only show the good stuff, the filtered, doctored and carefully chosen bits of their lives on social media, never the hard, gritty, real stuff that we encounter in our lives. I am not a fan of airing dirty laundry for public consumption but I would like to think I have real conversations / dialogue about things that really matter and quite often they end up in my column!
I have been told that I don't pull any punches and I have a face that cannot hide my thoughts and feelings which apparently can be deemed to be rude. I used to be mortified at the thought that I may have offended someone by not attempting to feign my interest in their story, but as I have gotten older and time is more precious I have let that worry go.
Don't get me wrong, I am not rude I am just a lot more conscious about who I surround myself with, what I give my time to and striving to not have conversations 'in the shallow end of the pool' so to speak. I do try and keep it real, be authentic and hopefully in the process allow and encourage others to do the same. Who knows, maybe given time 'real' may become the norm... imagine how much less energy it would take being real and not putting on an act for the sake of others? It's worth thinking about!
Last Thursday saw Stars at Majestic Talent Show wow the crowds at The Thursday Night Street Feast.
Ten extremely talented acts performed but there could only be one winner for the grand prize - a highly sought-after paid spot on the Caboodle 2018 stage. The Drones took first place with both the judges and the crowd. Sue Thorby came second and The Krew third. Highly commended was AJ Malili Malo Lavano. I know that Whanganui has major talent across all sectors of the arts but I was blown away the calibre and diversity of musicians performing on Thursday Night.
Bravo to all those who performed and for everyone else who came down to cheer them on and eat some delicious street food. Another magic night in our beautiful city!
