Police were dealing with the "standard pre-Christmas stresses" including domestic incidents around Whanganui yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Sue O'Neil said there were always more callouts leading up to and during Christmas.
"Families have financial pressures, and there's more drinking and peer pressure."
School holidays was always a time for added pressures, Ms O'Neil said.
Furthermore, there would be more pressures for families post-Christmas once the bills started coming in.
