The man who crashed his car into a power pole cutting power to hundreds of Gonville residents in May was over the blood alcohol limit.
Police also estimate he was travelling at speeds higher than 100km/h in the 50km/h residential area when he crashed.
Joseph Flack had 191mg of alcohol in his blood on May 30. The convictable limit is 80mg per litre of blood.
He was the only occupant of the car as it sped down Alma Rd around 8pm and lost traction at a left hand bend, police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler said in the Whanganui District Court yesterday.
Flack over-corrected and hit the kerb before smashing into the concrete power pole, scattering debris around the road. He broke his nose in the accident.
