It was firefighter Kat Penny-Baker who wanted to raise money for cancer sufferers and it was her golden locks that went first.
The Bulls volunteer fire brigade is 24 people, and seven agreed to get their heads shaved to raise money for people with leukaemia and blood cancer. Their aim was $1000 but by the time they had done a fundraising carwash and were being shorn on Sunday morning they already had $1239.
All of them have had people in their lives affected by cancer - either killed by it or fighting it, Mrs Penny-Baker said.
"Cancer is just a massive thing now."
There was lots of joking as they took turns to be clipped by Bulls hairdresser Vicky Swan. She volunteered her time "for the fantastic Bulls fire brigade who look after us".
