Secondary school students to test their culinary skills in UCOL Whanganui competition

UCOL's Whanganui campus will host a secondary schools hospitality competition from 9.30am down Rutland Street on Friday.

The competition will put cookery students through their paces with a host of items on the menu including cupcakes, white bread loaves, omelettes, pizza and pasta.

It is UCOL's second year of hosting the competition and will be the first time the event has taken place in Whanganui.

It will still continue in Palmerston North and has also extended out to the Wairarapa campus.

Entry is open to any year 11, 12 or 13 secondary student in Whanganui and competitors will be marked from 1-100.

Judging is based on 40 per cent professional practice and working method and 60 per cent on the finished product.

All competitors will receive either a certificate, bronze, silver or gold medal on the day and each category winner will take home a sponsor's gift.

The award ceremony will take place at approximately 2pm on the same day.
