The start of Puanga-Matariki was celebrated in upper Aramoho on June 17 with a breakfast jointly hosted by Churton School and Te Ao Hou Marae.
Churton School deputy principal Gary Johnston said nearly 150 locals joined in the feasting and korero.
Mr Johnston said the children were very excited about sharing breakfast with their friends, families and teachers.
"An important focus for the school is creating and growing connections throughout the upper Aramoho community. The marae and school are both integral parts of this as they are community facilities that have scope to be used in a variety of ways.
"I want to acknowledge the passion and commitment shown by the group of parents and teachers who helped to run the breakfast. It's an indication of the strong community feel in the area."
