Whanganui East School has hit Term Three running. Term Three is providing many opportunities for our children to explore movement through dance and sports. All classrooms are preparing for our annual school performance which is linked to our Olympics theme where classes have chosen a country to inspire their dance. Our performance night is Thursday, September 22, at Girls College and is always well attended by whanau and friends.
But before that, we are preparing for our school mini Olympics. At Whanganui East we have a large number of sporting children, and to support all our children from Years Two to Six they have been put into ability groups allowing children to feel confident, be challenged, develop and strengthen their skills within their groups. The children get to work with all the teachers across the school during this exercise, and they get to see the teachers deliver a sport they are passionate about. During our sports development programme the children are being exposed to the full range of winter sports. By providing the children with the opportunity to experience different sports, other than what they usually play, it may spark a desire for next year.
Mrs Barry has also got the competitive spirit thriving by taking an interclass four square challenge at lunch times. This has generated so much competition that our four square grids are being well used during morning tea and lunchtimes with classes practising for their game time. The next few weeks will be filled with fine tuning their bounce and spin techniques to see which class comes out on top. Good luck to all classes and keep up the great sportsman ship that has been shown around the school.
