Wanganui will see red this weekend - in a good way - as sellers take to the streets for Red Rose Day to raise funds for the Red Cross, which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year.
Volunteers will sell roses in Majestic Square and outside Countdown in Victoria Ave from 10am on Saturday, and at the Red Cross Bookshop in Guyton St.
"Of the 1200 roses for sale, 700 have been pre-ordered for delivery and some people will get a nice surprise when they arrive," said volunteer Alison Morris.
The blooms can be bought in bunches of three for $5, six for $10 or a dozen for $20, and volunteer Colin Toy said single stems will go for a gold coin donation.
All funds raised will stay in Wanganui to fund local Red Cross activities such as helping people after disasters like the June floods.
