For the past few weeks students at Whanganui East, Churton and Tawhero schools have received Usborne dictionaries courtesy of the Rotary Club of Wanganui North.
The club is enthusiastic about supporting literacy projects, starting in 2000 when they provided books in homes through the Duffy Foundation to one local primary school.
It is estimated that through its delivery of dictionaries, the club has distributed between $70,000 and $80,000 worth of books over 19 years.
The club now distributes between 70 and 100 dictionaries every year and despite this some members questioned just how much they helped students.
The matter was discussed with the school principals who resoundingly told the club that they were helpful and used often by the students.
