Over 500 young dancers are performing ballet, modern dance and tap dancing pieces for adjudicator Lorna Rosevear this week.

Wanganui Competitions Society Inc president Eris Walker said the adjudicator will "have her work cut out for her" with so many entries this year.

The competitions are being held at the Whanganui Girls College Hall and start at 8am each day this week.

"The most exciting part will be on Thursday when we have over 20 groups competing," said Mrs Walker.

Caitlin Meads performed her solo classical barefoot piece "Lifeline" yesterday.

She said the cast on her arm was the result of a friend falling on her and it had not affected her rehearsals.
