Sarjeant Gallery staff received a record number of submissions for the 2019 pattillo Whanganui Arts Review this year.
By 4.30pm on Tuesday, 188 works had been submitted and Sarjeant public programmes director Greg Donson said there is a huge array of media this year.
"Submission day is a great social day at the Sarjeant, its always great to see people from all over the region, catching up with each other –we saw lots of new faces yesterday and had lots of newcomers become members.
"Also, of course, lots of our long-standing friends and artists dropped in with their pieces. There's always a terrific sense of anticipation and excitement"
Whanganui glass artist Kathryn Wightman who received the open award for her kiln formed glass work Breathe last year, surprised everyone with her 2019 submission.
