A rāhui has been placed on the Te Wai ā-moe area of Mt Ruapehu after the death of a hiker on Saturday.
Ruapehu iwi Uenuku, Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāti Rangi acknowledged the death of the man who fell in to the Crater Lake and have placed a rāhui on the area until sunrise on Wednesday, September 26. The rāhui is supported by the Department of Conservation and Ruapehu Alpine Lifts.
Climbers, trampers and skiers are asked not to go above the boundaries of the ski areas at Whakapapa, Tūroa and Tukino or above a line 2300 metres above sea level on the mountain.
