Team caption and fellow staff member Mosalene McGregor said she is doing the Relay for Life because it's a good exercise and loved ones have died of cancer.
"Twelve years ago my Nan passed away from cancer.
"It was very long and very painful to watch her go through that. Last year my cousin passed away from cancer. Relay for Life gives support for people as well as raising funds to help fund finding a cure."
Mosalene said last year New World had gone all-out with a safari theme.
"This year I want to concentrate on the fundraising events."'
Mosalene aims to double the $2500 the supermarket raised in 2013.
"We have got a theme - the Bathurst Drifters - but I don't want to go into too many details. We need a few surprises."
She is grateful to the team's supporters, with New World the biggest sponsor and also including Display Associates, Body Focus, the Cosmopolitan Club, Treasury Wines, Coca Cola and Ceres Organic.
The team has been fundraising for months, including a pot-luck dinner which members had to cook, not buy, and other staff gave a gold coin donation to eat it.
A sausage sizzle has been held outside New World every weekend and they have been taking donations at the checkout for the past two months.
They are also working in with Jo Lilburn at Body Focus in Heads Rd, selling vouchers for a therapeutic half-hour massage.
The massage is available at $25 instead of the usual $35, and while good for anyone would be a treat for people with cancer.
A quiz night has already been held at the Cosmopolitan Club.
For Team New World, Relay for Life is also about team building.
Walking round a track at three in the morning, and sleeping in tents in the middle of Cooks Gardens are not usual work experiences.
Relay for Life is a Cancer Society event. It starts at noon on March 1. For more information contact Linda Farley, (06) 348 7402 or 021 027 77719.
