Hospice Whanganui's autumn fundraising event offers something for everyone, including one-of-a-kind artwork, wooden toys, carvings and paintings.
The Hospice is holding a blind auction of artwork, all donated by prisoners at Whanganui Prison. From behind the wire, 24 men have produced more than 60 pieces of artwork, included paintings, sketches, carvings, kauri platters and kete, along with two tables, one of which is a refurbished piece created by prison staff.
All of the funds raised from the auction will go to Hospice Whanganui.
Sandy McDougall, Operations Manager for Hospice Whanganui says the funds will go toward the multi-disciplinary team to support those in the community with life-limiting conditions.
The artwork has been blessed by Ned Tapa (Atihaunui a Paparangi).
Artwork can be viewed at Boutique Hospice Shop, 171 Victoria Avenue, from March 22 to 31, between 9.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday and 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday.
Nearby is a form on which to write your details and your bid.
All bids have to be received by Sunday, March 31.
"Some pieces do have a reserve price on them," says Sandy. "If this is successful, they [Dept of Corrections] are quite happy for us to do this every year."
All 24 of the prisoners volunteered to produce work without reward of financial gain or recognition, knowing the money raised would be used in the community.
"We are just overwhelmed and grateful."
