Quentin Leigh Te Moana was "unwilling" to take responsibility for his actions after repeatedly intimidating and threatening to kill his partner while damaging her property.
A Restorative Justice report said Te Moana blamed his partner for his offending and displayed an "appalling attitude".
He was in Whanganui District Court over threats to kill, breaching a protection order, assault, and breaching conditions of intensive supervision.
He has pleaded guilty to the charges.
Te Moana and the victim have been in an on-off relationship for four years and have a child together, Judge David Cameron said.
