Power restored to Whanganui properties after car hits power pole in Aramoho

Contractors worked throughout Wednesday to restore power to 200 Aramoho properties.

Power was restored to hundreds of Whanganui properties on Wednesday afternoon after being out since about 5am.

Power was cut to about 200 Aramoho properties after a car crashed into a power pole on Brunswick Rd early on Wednesday morning.

A police spokesperson said the power pole was still standing but was on a slant and the driver of the vehicle had not been located.

Contractors worked throughout the day to get the power back on. A Powerco spokeswoman said power was restored at 4pm on Wednesday.

Stacey Williams, of Staceys Cakes, posted on Facebook that she was baking when the power went out and she had wasted ingredients in a cake she was making for a client.

Williams said it was an inconvenience at first, but saw a silver lining in it after she discovered the power cut was the result of a car crash.

"I have taken this opportunity to teach my twins how to manage themselves in an emergency," Williams said.

"My cake isn't important compared to everyone's safety. I hope everyone affected is safe, warm and has food."

Aramoho Mags and Lotto remained open, posting on Facebook that its Lotto terminals were still working.
