Police have stepped in amid growing concerns over a group of youths cycling dangerously around Whanganui.
Over the past few weeks the youths have been causing alarm to motorists, with witnesses describing them as riding brazenly in and out of moving traffic, cutting across the front of cars and cycling down the wrong side of the road.
The "antisocial" behaviour - they also do not wear the mandatory helmets - has come to the attention of Whanganui Police.
They had received complaints from citizens and off-duty officers who had witnessed teenagers biking around the central business district in "a dangerous and intimidating manner". There have also been complaints on social media.
"Police are aware of concerns in the community that a group of teenagers are riding their bikes dangerously on the roads and participating in antisocial behaviour," Senior Sergeant Shayne Wainhouse said.
