Wanganui's gambling venues policy is under the microscope again - but major changes are unlikely.
The policy covers the location and number of gambling machines in the city and district, and now the Government has told local authorities, including the Wanganui District Council, to consider a "relocation" rider to its policy.
It is one of the key provisions of the Gambling (Gambling Harm Reduction) Amendment Act 2013. However, it is unlikely Wanganui's council will take that step, because it would cut across its existing "sinking lid" policy.
Marie Gorinski, a policy analyst at the council, said there was always a high level of public interest in anything to do with gambling machines, and in this latest review the council had to consider whether relocation should be included in its policy.
"This is a new requirement, which means the council needs to decide if venues should be able to relocate from one site to another and any revised policy will need to stipulate the council's position on this," Ms Gorinski said.
