Wanganui councillors are in for pay rises with the latest rulings from the Independent Remuneration Authority.
The new pay rates came into effect on July 1 and mean Wanganui mayor Annette Main gets $107,338 a year, a little under $5000 more than previously.
Her deputy, councillor Hamish McDouall, is in line for $38,875 (up $2500), while the eight councillors who have "portfolios" will be paid $33,900, an increase of just over $1000. The remaining councillors will receive $31,100 (up $2000).
The portfolio structure was introduced last year, with council trying a new meeting set-up with portfolios replacing chairmanships. But whether that stays in place will be determined this month when the system comes up for review.
The authority has also increased the stipend for the chair of the council's rural community board. Alan Taylor will now receive $10,400 (up $1000), while board members will be getting $5200, that's $500 more than the previous rate.
