Food, music, poems, prayers and discussion are offered up to the public in celebration of the International Day of Peace on Sunday.
The annual event is organised by Peace Through Unity and Wanganui's United Nations branch - but this year others have contributed, Peace Through Unity spokeswoman Gita Brooke said.
The celebration begins with prayers at the Handspan sculpture in Queen's Park at noon.
It resumes at 4.30pm in the Alexander Heritage & Research Library, with music from the Richdale Ensemble. There are prayers from John Maihi and Jonathan Hartfield, and a welcome from Wanganui Mayor Annette Mainfollowed by a panel discussion from United Nations consultant Justin Frewen, restorative justice advocate Jenny Saywood and treaty facilitator David James. Each speaks for 10 minutes, on people's right to peace. Then Wanganui's Youth Council leads off a general discussion.
More music, poems from Meg Hartfield follow before light refreshments are served.
