Whanganui's Rebecca Scown picked up her second Olympic medal overnight Friday with a silver in the women's pair at the Rio Olympics.

It was New Zealand'sr fifth silver medal of the Rio Games as the Union Boat Club rpwer teamed up with Genevieve Behrent to come home second behind the Great Britain pair after trailing last in the first 250 metres of the final.

Their sprint home into second place was followed by a gold medal winning performance from Mahe Drysdale in the ssingle sculls, though Emma Twigg had to settle for fourth in the women's single sculls.

Scown was back in action in the women's eight final along with another Whanganui rower, Kerri Gowler. However, they failed to collect a medal despite their best efforts.

Hawera-born former Collegiate student Scown won a bronze medal in the women's coxless pair at the 2012 Games in London.
