Whanganui has come through its first winter storm - which is expected to settle down by Wednesday night - unscathed.
While much of the north island has been battered by high wind and heavy rain, Whanganui District Council emergency manager Tim Crowe said the district had nothing more than couple of minor power outages and "a lot of branches and stuff around".
About 44mm of rain fell in the 24 hours to 3pm on Wednesday but Mr Crowe said it came in heavy local downpours but there was not enough to be concerned about.
"It was about a third if what we call warning levels."
The highest wind speed recorded in Whanganui was 82.8km/h.
