WANGANUI business owner Ed Boyd felt pretty "darn good'' as he watched his new $450,000 four-colour printing press cut loose from its wrappings yesterday.
The Japanese-made machine the first of its kind in the city had been packed into three huge containers and it took more than an hour to unpack.
Mr Boyd said it was exciting.
"It's like getting a huge Christmas present."
Owner of the small printing and design business H and A Print and Design, Mr Boyd said his main aim, as well as turning out great work, was to keep the employment doors open in Wanganui.
"It's important for me to employ local people.
"We have 23 staff right now," he said.
The company was building a reputation, both nationally and internationally, he said.
"We might be small but we have a few contracts for national magazines."
The magazines printed at the small factory include the Rolls-Royce and Bentley and the national and international Camellia magazine.
"We're kept busy with contracts for brochures and booklets from all over the country."
In three days the new "baby" would be up and running, making life much faster and more efficient, he said.
