Bryan Eckersley plays with heart - someone else's heart, that is.
The multisport enthusiast from Rotorua, who has competed in all but one Masters Games in Wanganui, had a heart transplant 10 years ago.
Heart trouble saw him have a triple bypass in 2004, followed by a heart transplant - on his birthday - in 2005.
"I only saw half an hour of my birthday that year, but I did get an amazing present. I will be forever grateful to the donor family for the gift of a new heart."
Thirteen months later, Bryan was back in Wanganui at the Masters Games, where he picked up two gold medals and a bronze.
