Shar Amner has been voted onto the six-member board that directs the Atihau-Whanganui Incorporation's large farming business.

At the incorporation's annual general meeting last week there were three board members due to retire unless voted back on, and three people who wanted to take their places.

Chairwoman Mavis Mullins said having that many nominees showed real vibrancy and engagement from shareholders.

She and Whatarangi Murphy-Peehi were voted back onto the board, while Shar Amner will take the place of former board member Jim Edmonds.

Mr Edmonds has played a valuable role in terms of farm knowledge and deep cultural understanding, Mrs Mullins said.

His expertise would still be available.

"It's like (the song) California. You can check out, but you can never leave."

She was pleased and excited to welcome Mr Amner.
