Te Rino and Jennifer Rapana are still storing tyres in Wanganui's Brunswick Rd and have not yet applied for funding to recycle them.
They were required to do so by Horizons Regional Council last month - and also to stop adding to the pile and to present formal documents confirming how the tyres would be recycled.
The last chance to apply to the Ministry for the Environment's Waste Minimisation Fund was on July 16, but their adviser told them their business plan was not ready. Mr Rapana said there would be another chance to apply soon, and he wanted the plan to be properly completed.
The couple, trading as Farmcorp, will now have to apply to Horizons Regional Council for resource consent to store the tyres. That application has not yet been made, a Horizons spokeswoman said.
There are more than 4000 tyres on the Brunswick Rd property the couple are leasing. They are screened by vegetation and not visible from the road. Neighbour Brian Backhouse said no tyres were brought on to the property in the past week.
