Wanganui District Council is working up a new by-law that could have significant impact on how people advertise their businesses or events.
And councillor Helen Craig says it is a change that all retailers, businesses and event organisers need to take a close look at because submissions close in a fortnight (August 5).
The changes consolidate some existing regulations and affect the use of signs by businesses, real estate agents, retailers and event organisers to attract customers and tourists.
"Council officers advise there is nothing new contained in this by-law, however, I believe that enforcement may become stronger," Mrs Craig said.
Under the changes, footpath signs will be restricted to immediately in front of a retail store, and Mrs Craig said this would impact on some retailers who placed signs on street corners to attract customers.
