Pairs competition at the 35th annual Chartered Clubs National Women's Indoor Bowls Tournament got down to the nitty gritty on Tuesday with post-section play at Jubilee Stadium in Whanganui.

Pairs competition at the 35th annual Chartered Clubs National Women's Indoor Bowls Tournament got down to the nitty gritty on Tuesday with post-section play at Jubilee Stadium in Whanganui.

Waikato's Lesley Monk easily claimed the singles title at the 35th Chartered Clubs National Women's Indoor Bowls Tournament in Whanganui on Monday.

The Hamilton Workingmen's Club player blitzed Ngaire Lawson (Tauranga Citizens) 10-0 in the final played at the Whanganui St Johns Club, the hosts this year.

Third equal were Ann Cottrell (Dunedin Metropolitan) and Pam Hopkins (Waipa Workingmen's).

Section and post-section play is being played at the Jubilee Stadium with all semifinals and finals on centre stage at the host club in Glasgow St.

Pairs were in action on Tuesday, with the finals played in the evening, where it was an all Masterton affair.

Mother and daughter Elva Simonsen and Marilyn O'Neale from the Masterton Horseshoe Club combined to beat clubmates Janice Leighton and Dale Stanton 11-8. Third equal was Olga Barnes and Marlene Walker from the Waipa Workingmen's Club and Sue Taylor and Dora Warren of the Napier RSA.

In the semi-finals Simonsen defeated Taylor 10-6 and Leighton defeated Barnes 16-2. All games were played over 10 ends.

Triples feature on Wednesday, with the fours set down for Thursday. Overall, 293 players will take part.

St Johns Club president Royce Tunbridge said while the host club had not tasted success, bowlers from the Castlecliff Club won the triples in 2015.

"We hosted the tournament in 1994, but haven't had success," Tunbridge said.

"Castlecliff has, though, and playing in that 2015 winning triples team was Barbara Gosnell, who ironically will be laid to rest on Wednesday. As a mark of respect to Barbie, we will finish playing at 12.30pm and resume at 2.30pm so people can attend her funeral."
