Incumbent Whanganui MP Chester Borrows knows only too well the pain of losing so winning the seat for National a fourth time gave him a definite satisfaction.
The only serious opposition was Labour candidate Hamish McDouall but the night turned into another comfortable win for Mr Borrows.
He held an election night majority of about 4300 votes.
Mr Borrows said his win was based on hard work across the electorate with an emphasis on the city.
He currently holds associate portfolios of justice and social development but acknowledged he was hoping for more recognition when Prime Minister John Key sorts out his ministerial team.
