St Hill St is about to get a lot more colourful with murals going up on two buildings on the street.
Napier street artist Cinzah Merkens is painting a large mural on the back of the Gatshack building, while local artist Simon Ormerod is painting a mural on the Central Glass building, facing the Royal Wanganui Opera House.
Merkens started his mural on Tuesday and hoped to finish it by the end of yesterday.
"I'm really into story-telling. The mural will be on several different levels, but it will be one cohesive image telling the Maori mythology behind where Wanganui came from," he said.
Merkens moved to Napier from Auckland at the start of this year and has already painted five murals in his new city.
