The congregation has returned to St Andrew's Church in Marton.
In June last year, the 143-year-old building was deemed an earthquake risk, forcing services to be run in the hall at the back of the church. But last Sunday, church services returned home.
Since the church was put out of action, a detailed engineer's report was commissioned and a programme set up to get the building up to standard. Two bracing rods have been installed in the upper area of the roof, making it safe enough to occupy while further work is done.
"These extra two bracing rods have given us the breathing space we need as we do fundraising to bring our church up to government threshold standards," Reverend Phil Warner said. "This stage cost us less than we anticipated, and at this time, we are unsure how much the rest of the work will cost."
Mr Warner said while having to vacate the church had not been ideal, the congregation had coped well.
