Monster garage sale to back up this weekend

A combination of demand and generosity means a second Wanganui Chronicle Monster Garage Sale will be held this weekend.

The original garage sale was held last weekend at 39 Taupo Quay, and raised nearly $3900 for the Cancer Society.

The event was held by the Wanganui Chronicle as part of its fundraising efforts for the Cancer Society's Relay For Life, which will be held at Cooks Garden on March 16.

The Chronicle has a team taking part in the relay, and each team must raise $1000 for the Cancer Society.

Garage sale organiser Sandra Rickey said people were so generous ahead of last weekend's sale that the building was full to capacity and she had to decline some offers of goods.

However, there was enough left over and sufficient public interest to make another sale viable, Ms Rickey said.

"So we are looking for donations of good-quality items this week and we would prefer people to drop the items off themselves."

Books, clothes, furniture, crockery and other household items are welcome - as long as they're in reasonable condition.

Ms Rickey said she was very grateful to those who had supported the garage sale, particularly Ross and Bobbi Mitchell-Anyon who provided the venue.
