Kyle was found face-down in a ditch near the Makirikiri Rd rail crossing about 5km from the Marton CBD just before 9am yesterday.
"He's cold, wet and in need of medication, but apart from that he's otherwise fine," Senior Constable Allan Spooner said.
Two members of the public who were driving Marton roads to help with the search had spotted Kyle's green arm cast.
It was a sleepless Saturday night for Kyle's parents, Warren and Jaime, who were overwhelmed by the help members of the public offered and were grateful to the women who found him. "We cannot begin to try to express our immense gratitude in finding our son," Mrs McGillivray said.
Mr McGillivray said Kyle was "pretty cold and wet" after spending the night in a paddock.
"He was found face down in the paddock. So they've sort of warmed him up, and he's eating a bit of food, so hopefully he'll make a full recovery."
He wanted to thank the police and everybody else who helped search for Kyle.
"It was mind blowing, to be honest ... too many people to name, really."
The message spread fast on social media, and many Martonians took to the streets searching for the boy.
Mr McGillivray said police used dogs to try to find Kyle. That meant some volunteers searching on foot were asked to drive instead.
"We ended up just having to let everyone know we appreciate the help and, if they wanted to, search just in vehicles only, just so they didn't disturb any of the possible leads, scentwise and everything for the dogs."
Mrs McGillivray said the lengths people had gone to were amazing. "We had a friend text and say he had crawled 50 metres up a storm drain to check if he was up there," she said.
"Every time people came back, they were just saying I can't believe how many people were out." There would have been at least 50 members of the public helping, she said.
Kyle would stay at the hospital overnight to be monitored, but he was otherwise fine.
"He's a survivor, that boy."
