Mangawhero Kōhanga Reo has celebrated its new taonga with a blessing and unveiling ceremony.
Manager, or kaiwhakahaere, at Mangawhero Kōhanga Reo, Mere Kawau, said the taonga had been a long time coming.
"It was a journey of discovery, we wanted something that was Māori to enhance our kōhanga reo, as opposed to toys or things like that," she said.
"It's extremely important to us, we've been planning this for about three years, it started out as one thing and ended up as something else entirely."
Kawau had been in contact with Childspace in Wellington who made some plans and design ideas for them, but plans never progressed further.
