A man cut his electronic bail monitoring anklet after having an argument with his mother and fleeing the bail address.
Mathew Llewellyn-Thomas pleaded guilty in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday to wilful damage for cutting off the $1520 device while he was on electronically monitored bail.
Police were called out to a domestic incident at Llewellyn-Thomas' mother's house, where he was bailed to. He had become "verbally abusive" towards his mother, police prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Willemsen said.
Llewellyn-Thomas jumped the fence over to Whanganui Hospital grounds and escaped police. Probation officers were alerted about 5pm that his anklet had been cut. He was found at a later date, hiding at a friend's address.
Judge David Cameron noted Llewellyn-Thomas' guilty plea and remanded him to September 28, the trial date for another matter. An earlier callover date has not yet been set.
