The Dublin St Bridge will be closed for a day this month for resurfacing.
Vehicles will not be able to use the bridge on Saturday, February 10, between 6am and 5pm but it will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.
The 103-year-old bridge was last resurfaced seven years ago and the Whanganui District Council's infrastructure general manager, Mark Hughes, said it was now "at the limit of its required level of service" and needed to be resurfaced this year.
"Getting the work done now will prevent water from penetrating the under-seal membrane and affecting the structure which could result in further maintenance," he said.
Mr Hughes said the work was best done during daylight but the council had tried to limit disruption in other ways.
