Pedestrians can stride up and down the Durie Hill steps with confidence this coming winter, thanks to the installation of a new lighting system.
Strong Electrical has spent this week installing four LED Doona streetlamps along the steps, which are well used by many Durie Hill residents, rain or shine.
The new lights are replacing two "fairly ancient" street lamps wired overhead to wooden posts.
The old lights were deemed to have become unsafe as a result of insect infestation.
The wiring had become problematic during high winds and difficult to maintain because of dense surrounding foliage, electrician Wayne Beano said.
