Last December the lights that adorned Wanganui homes were a sight to behold.
And it's nearly that time again. Chronicle event co-ordinator Jenna Lees said there were only two weeks to go before this year's Light Up Your Home competition, and people needed to start getting ready. Entries close next Friday.
This year the houses would be lit up from December 5 to 29, she said.
Households anywhere in the wider Wanganui region could enter, and there was a prize of $2000 worth of energy for the best entry, with $500 worth of garden vouchers for the people's favourite and a barbecue for the best new entry. A map showing locations of the houses would be published, so that people could get in their cars and tour them after dark. She would not say when they would be judged.
Last year 27 houses entered, and Ms Lees looked forward to the same level of enthusiasm this time.
"It's a community thing, a feel-good thing. There's no cost to anyone, except the people lighting up their homes."
Light it up Wanganui!
