Sweet red roses were in abundance at Red Cross on Thursday, and on Friday about 650 of them will be delivered to Whanganui homes and workplaces.
Red Rose Day is the annual fundraising event that helps to fund Whanganui's own Red Cross activities.
These include helping people after disasters like the 2015 June floods as well as the regular services they provide such as first aid courses and providing catering to the fire service.
The blooms can be bought in bunches of three for $5, six for $10 or a dozen for $20.
Organiser Trudy Taylor said the rest of the 1300 roses will be for sale at five locations around Whanganui on Friday.
