Horizons Regional Council staff got a close-up look at how emergency services respond to accidents.

Whanganui fire, police and St John Ambulance staff participated a simulated road accident situation as part of a staff training exercise.

Staff came from throughout the region - which extends from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east - to attend the training day on Friday.

Horizons roadsafe co-ordinator Glenda Leitao said it was an opportunity for staff to get a first-hand look at how emergency services respond to accidents.

"It was an opportunity for them to see what the road safety team are working with and it was also a chance for emergency service staff to have a training session as well."
