Vintage cars rolled down Somme Parade yesterday as around 2000 people turned out to celebrate Wanganui's past ... and how far it has come over the past 100 years.
The re-enactment of the opening of the Dublin Street bridge, which took place on November 3, 1914, saw mayor Annette Main in the leading car, taking on the role of Thomas Boswall Williams, the mayor who opened the bridge 100 years ago.
Driving the 1906 Rio vehicle was its owner Ian Chamberlain and behind them were councillors Jenny Duncan and Jason Granville.
Whanganui MP Chester Borrows, councillors and others played their parts, staying true to the past era, while among the crowd was the grandson and other descendants of mayor Boswall Williams.
