Construction on a one-stop-shop family health centre in Feilding is due to begin in November.
The facility will be spread over 1.6 hectares on the site of the old Feilding Maternity Hospital. It will be attached to the Clevely Aged Care Wing in Duke St.
The integrated family health centre is expected to be up and running by the end of next year. The much-anticipated development is a major step forward in future-proofing local primary health care.
The Manawatu Community Trust is spearheading the project, providing an initial $500,000 to cover start-up costs. The funding is being used for stakeholder consultation and negotiation, building design work and resource consent.
The trust wants to establish the centre as a community-owned facility and hopes fundraising and contributions from Feilding people will make it a reality. This will ensure on-going excellence in primary health care in the area as well as setting a standard for provincial New Zealand.
