Lowering the speed limit along the length of Mosston Rd is not going to change the habits of some speeding motorists, says Wanganui District Council member Ray Stevens.
Mr Stevens, who holds the council's infrastructure portfolio, said a car crash on Sunday morning, when a car left Springvale Rd near the Caversham Rd intersection, happened where the 50km/h zone changed to 70km/h.
The impact of the crash broke a power pole, left the driver in a critical condition in Wanganui Hospital and disrupted power to hundreds of households.
Mr Stevens said every time there was a crash the council was called on to look at speed restrictions.
"Police have told us the major cause for the weekend crash was speed - yet the car was between 50km/h and 70km/h zones. So how do we curb the inclination some people have to drive too fast?
