The children at Aramoho Playcentre now have their own native nature area, thanks to a community grant from Horizons Regional Council.
Grants and property officer Lana Treen says the children love to get outside and caregivers wanted to create a native nature area they could really enjoy and learn from.
"The area has a combination of native plants ranging from quite small to medium-sized.
"While the plants don't seem very big to adults, from our children's perspective, they are the perfect size," Miss Treen said.
"We've designed the area to include a path so the children can ride their bikes through and we hope to finish it with compressed shell rock so it can be enjoyed all year round. We also plan on adding some reno [decorative] and river rocks to protect the smallest plants and the children can investigate what insects live under the rocks."
