This year's whitebait season has been the best in a long time for the little fish - but not for the weather.
For the past 12 years Glad Stoneman has taken her poptop camper out to a coastal Wanganui stream and camped there during the season. This year the weather knocked it around, ripping the awning and zippers.
"You couldn't fish at the surf because you couldn't stand up in the westerlies. There was great days, but the weather really was atrocious."
She caught 13kg of whitebait, and gave about half away. She heard about people who caught 3kg on one weekend when there was a big run.
There were more people at her favourite spot, and some fights over positions on the stream.
