Never thought I'd see fashionista Gok Wan using his talent somewhere else on tv other than dressing models in budget gear and pitting them against those clothed by designer moguls.

Now he's fired up with panache and flair on the tele again, this time in a home design show on Choice Television,

As he told a London newspaper "we dress our bodies to reflect who we are and we should do the same with our homes."

"Home is an extension of your personality," he said.
Problem is, after spending a large chunk of dosh on your home there's rarely pots of money left for the doing up process.

Still a very personable host, Gok - who now looks older and seems a size larger - energises his homeowners to choose a couple of pieces from a junkyard to start with.

Then he sets to work with his team to make look their home look fabulous and new.
In this episode the family were invited to choose items from the Fill Your House for Free in Glasgow.

It's amazing what they unearth amongst the junk and clutter.

It's all about upcycling and Gok is the master guru when it comes to creating a "look".
With his team of recycling experts you watch these rugged old pieces start to emerge into slap-up, exciting house stuff.

I was inspired especially after he dug out some battered old pieces of scaffolding and with his clever team started the sanding, shaping and painting - and behold, exceptional shelving.

He even fashioned a great work desk with old scrappy, knotty wood.
And used a log round, had it sanded and varnished into a superb side table.

One couple had found a not-too-shabby pair of sofas and once Gok had sorted, cleaned and brushed them they were very presentable and smart.

In his inimitable way with fabric and colour - using discarded swathes of fabric and old pots of paint - he worked his magic.

It always fascinated me how, in his fashion shows, with bit of this and a smidge of that he would have his models looking gorgeous - almost instantly.

He's the chap for me if I need a home decor champion. Shame he's in Britain.

Gok's positive manner is very appealing.

He's a magic guru indeed.
