If there was a bright side to June's flooding it's that the inaugural Mudder was even muddier than expected.
The mud run, hosted by Rangitikei Farmstay, attracted about 400 entrants keen for the chance to complete a muddy obstacle course near Marton on Saturday morning.
"It went really well. We were really happy with it, pleased with the day and how things ran," organiser Andrew Stewart said.
People turned up from around the North Island for the event and got stuck into the mud from beginning to the end of the 3km, 5km and 8km races.
"Because of the June flooding, the course had changed. A lot of what was bad for the farm was good for the Mudder," Mr Stewart said.
